Just an update . . .
We've renamed Patch. His new name is Benny. And we love him to pieces.
You were so right. He has the best personality. He's so sweet. He's not
fearful at all, although he's been a little cautious of our cat Max, who
is even more cautious of him. But they are doing VERY well together, considering
other cats we've had in the past. In the past, it seemed like it was days
of hissing at each other and a few weeks til they went near each other.
But they go up to each other now and sniff. And Max even let Benny play
with his tail a little tonight.
Benny is now laying above my keyboard watching me type. Max just came
in, Benny jumped down and they sniffed nose to nose!
Benny slept with us all night without a peep. He was such a cuddler. He
literally laid across our arms or shoulders, right up at our faces. A
couple times he burrowed down in the covers to lay at the crook of my
knees. He stayed that way quite a while til I moved him. I was afraid
I would squish him.
I tried for a few pictures, but they're not very good. I've got some of
Max, but Benny doesn't stay still long enough. Will keep trying.
Lori,
You may want to pass on this warning to all of Benny's (formerly Patch)
brother's and sister's owners (including half-sisters and half-brothers).
Benny is a thief! He started with Q-tips and wads of paper (and my makeup
brushes). But now he has moved on to credit cards and cash money! Cash
money is particularly tempting when folded or wadded up. Credit cards
can be pushed off a table top or counter with the old "stealth paw"
onto the floor. A quick hop down to the floor, the card is then flipped
up into the mouth and carted off to an entirely different part of the
house. The owner of said credit card or cash can be left scratching their
heads saying "I know I just laid that down here a minute ago",
"It can't just have walked out of the room!" and worse, "I
must be losing my mind!"
I'm going to have my camera ready to try to catch him in the act. Something
needs to be done! If we didn't love him so much, we'd report him to the
authorities. He really should be locked up with all the other cat burglars.
But we just don't have the heart to do it. Lori, maybe it's your fault
because from when they're born you call them girls (when they're boys)
and boys (when they're really girls). Maybe Benny is trying to find himself
through petty theft and larceny.
In the meantime, we are going to try to get him some help. Pray for us.
Vicki Allard
P.S. He's also guilty of vandalism, but I won't go into that now.
